At Flourish Labs, we’re on a mission to bring accessible, affordable mental health support to everyone who needs it by empowering people to support each other. We believe that peer support is an effective, yet underutilized solution to the mental health crisis. Peer supporters use their own lived experience of mental health challenges to help others.

We are growing the workforce of Certified Peer Supporters by training students in peer support skills, such as active listening, building rapport, strengths, self-care, coping strategies and safety. We’ll offer peer supporter jobs in our peer support network, launching later this year. Students who want support will be able to find Certified Peer Supporters in our network who match their needs, and book support sessions via our digital platform.

We’re partnering with nonprofits and colleges to bring the peer supporter training and job opportunity to students. Youth Era, a peer-led organization based in Oregon with deep experience in training youth peer supporters, is our training partner. We’ve been designing our program with Active Minds, the largest nationwide network of student mental health volunteers with chapters on over 600 college campuses.

We also offer a free app, håp, which helps students track the ups and downs of their mind, connects them to crisis support and makes it easier to reach out to their friends for support.

What you’ll do in this role
  • This could be a full time role, or a part time/freelance contractor role.

  • Be the founding marketer for the company. Develop and execute inspiring and data-driven marketing strategies across demand generation/performance and social, partnerships, brand, and product.

  • Demand generation & performance marketing (50%): Develop and execute marketing strategies to recruit students into both sides of the peer network, to be trained as peer supporters, and to receive peer support services. Run experiments, optimize marketing mix and CAC. Oversee website content and editorial with an SEO-first lens for Flourish Labs corporate website (flourishlabs.com) and product websites (projecthap.com, peers.net). Use marketing for product concept testing/validation. Develop and execute targeted paid marketing campaigns (e.g. around a launch).

  • Social (20%): Develop social media strategy and establish Flourish Labs presence on Instagram, TikTok, BeReal, Snap, Twitter, LinkedIn (employee-facing) etc. Set up influencer outreach and manage ongoing relationships. Work with intern(s) to develop and deploy content on our social channels.

  • Partner & on the ground campus marketing (20%): Set up partnerships, manage relationships and collaborations with colleges and student groups such as sororities, athletics teams, mental health groups. Plan and execute outreach events on campus, in partnership with Active Minds and other partners.

  • Brand & product marketing (10%): Develop messaging for Flourish Labs parent brand and product sub-brands. Own product naming/branding, including re-branding of our app and new brand for peer network. Manage product announcements.

  • Be resourceful and a responsible steward of Marketing resources, budget and talent. Bring in and manage interns, freelancers and agency expertise as required - bearing in mind that at this early stage this is more of a roll up your sleeves and get it done role than managing an army of agencies.

  • Report and present insights-driven analytics to stakeholders, ensuring constant optimization towards reach and engagement within our target audience.

     

What we’re looking for

Key qualifications

  • Passion for mental health, using technology to solve big problems

  • 5+ years of marketing experience, including performance marketing, earned and social media

  • Creative thinker, willing to try different approaches, learn and iterate quickly

  • Thrive in uncertainty, able to adapt to changing priorities of an early startup environment

  • Ability to work independently, confidence to ask for help

  • Strategic thinker, able to define marketing strategy and prioritize tactics to execute against the strategy

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. We are a remote-first company with people in different timezones, so we rely on clear written communication to get things done.

Preferred qualifications

  • Strong project management and organization skills/experience

  • Experience working in a startup or startup-like environment

  • Understand how college age students think and feel and engage with technology — prior experience targeting this audience strongly preferred

  • Experience with any of the tools that we use, including Google Workspace, Notion, AirTable, Zapier, WordPress & others you want to bring in!

We are an early stage startup and a global, distributed, remote-first company. This means you can work from anywhere with a good internet connection, and we occasionally meet up face to face for onsite gatherings. We care about impact, not hours worked.
